Knit by me for me!
I think a WARM RED made an interesting presentation for an aran afghan, usually knit
in a classic cream using a classic worsted weight!
Rowan POLAR is just about the yummiest
yarn in the world. Being a chunky weight, my aran afghan turned out to be super-sized...which was my goal. Nor more feet sticking out while catnapping!
Here is my afghan, about halfway done!
NOTES:
I used size 11 Lantern Moon 32" circs.
A dream to work with!
-----
Addi's were not pointy enough to execute the bobbles and cables quickly and accurately.
-----
KnitPicks OPTIONS circs were too pointy
because Rowan POLAR splits easily.
OPTIONS were NOT AN OPTION on this project!
KnitPicks OPTIONS are usually my first choice!
-----
Finally, the little bumpy knob at the base of
the Crystal Palace circs proved to be a
"hang-up" with this yarn, and the weight of
the blanket. Slowed down my time A LOT!
-----
This lead me to the Lantern Moons...which have
no 'bumps' or other impediments to a SMOOTH
flow on the needle...and...the Lanern Moons were
pointy enough to work the cabling and bobbles
quickly and accurately...
and no splitting of the yarn, either! A Winner!
-----
Finding the correct style needle
greatly improved my knitting speed!
A the beginning, it took me about 40 minutes
to knit down the row and back again.
I was fighting the needle all the time. Grrrr.
(row width: 242 stitches)
By the time I had my pattern "groove" going.
my time improved to about 20 minutes!
(a right side and a wrong side completed)
Of course, familiarity of the "pattern"
also improves the time. To help this along, I color code my photocopy of the pattern graph as well.
Color coding helps the "eye" glance at
the approaching "stitch sequences"...with
no mix-ups or switcheroos...therefore...
no "tinking" or "frogging" to correct errors!
-----

March 12th! Afghan done! 25 skeins used!
Finished Size: 55" x 75"
Note: I didn't add the usual pattern "fringe".
Rowan POLAR "fuzzes" at the ends...and isn't suitable for "fringe". I found a "Petite Bell Ruffle" in Nicky Epstein's book "Knitting On the Edge"
